Musical Offerings for the Holidays

Hear spectacular music from the Chancel Choir under Dr. Robert Muckenfuss' leadership this Advent season at First Presbyterian Church. (Chancel Choir in Scotland, July 2014)

The Chancel Choir will present a cantata this Sunday at both services accompanied by harp, marimba, vibraphone and classical guitar. Conrad Susa's Carols and Lullabies is a 12 movement work of Christmas carol arrangements from Spain, Mexico and the American southwest. On Christmas Eve, Dana Goode, a guest violinist will perform festive music for violin and piano at the 8:30 pm prelude and in collaboration with the Chancel Choir at the 9:00 pm service on Christmas Eve.

AND THEN IN JANUARY, don't miss the inspiring opera Amahl and the Night Visitors in our sanctuary on the 4th, at 7:00 pm. This performance is a reprisal from last year, and a warm, family friendly event. Come for dinner and stay for the opera! The opera is free but DINNER RESERVATIONs must be made by December 29.

Christmas Eve

  • 4:00 pm -- 20 minute service "with the toddler in mind"
  • 5:30 pm -- Family Worship
  • 8:30 pm -- Prelude Music
  • 9:00 pm -- Candlelight Service of Lesson & Carols with the Lord's Supper

Dinners for Eight

“Dinners for Eight” provides an opportunity for a social gathering by sharing a meal and fellowship together. The 2015 DF8 begins in January. It is now time to sign-up, get involved and meet new & unknown friends – and have fun throughout the year. Members should notify Florence Smoot (fsmoot@wwproductions.com / 410-280-5405) if interested. Group members take turns meeting at respective member’s homes for dinner (or lunch); all share in the preparations with the host identifying the menu. Some groups elect to dine at a restaurant. Each group decides upon their own schedule.

Epiphany

Epiphany Pageant (2014)

Join us in worship on Epiphany, January 4 at both services for the "come-as-you-are” pageant celebrating the arrival of the three kings. No rehearsal necessary! Just show up and be an angel or shepherd! See Church Staff members in the pageant at the 8:30 worship. * Remember to bring a non-perishable food item wrapped in white packaging for the Light House Shelter; gifts will be brought to the Chancel steps during the service.

TAIZE WORSHIP

Co-Sponsored by First Presbyterian and St. Mary's Church

On the second Wednesday of each month First Presbyterian and St. Mary’s Churches share the leadership of a worship service in the Taizé tradition. The next service will be held on January 14 at 7:30 pm at St. John Neumann Catholic Church on Bestgate Road, a lovely setting for Taizé. The quiet and contemplative nature of this worship experience is particularly suited to restoring one’s spirit in the “bleak midwinter.” Visit Taize Services for more information.

Covenant Circles 2015

Join us during the five Wednesday nights of Lent (February 25, March 4, 11, 18, and 25) for a unique, small group experience. Sign up for a group that sparks your interest and journey with this community of people throughout the season of Lent. This is a great opportunity to make new friends within the church. Circles are first come, first serve, so sign up early to ensure your first choice. Groups with insufficient interest (less than six people) may be cancelled. See here for details.
