Children's Ministry

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

First Presbyterian Church warmly welcomes children and their families. We offer an array of opportunities for children to grow in faith and know God, not just know about God.

Beyond Sunday mornings, we offer many opportunities for families to get to know each other and enjoy time together at special gatherings, movie nights, and mission projects to help those in need. We hope to see you soon!

To apply to work with our children, please complete this Youth and Children Volunteer Application.

Children's Ministry Brochure

Nursery

The safety and care of your children is our utmost priority and we look forward to safely nurturing them in our bright and spacious, child-friendly room on the ground floor of the Education Building.

To register for Sunday School or childcare, please print and fill out a Family Ministry Form for each child and bring to your child’s class on Sunday morning. These forms, which must be completed before you may leave your child, are also available in the nursery and classrooms.

Sunday School

Sunday School is held in our Education Building, which includes childcare rooms for infants and toddlers as well as classroom spaces for children age 3 and older. It is offered from September through May from 9:30-10:30am.

Children in Worship

Time with Children

Children of all ages are welcome to come forward to the chancel steps for a short children’s sermon and prayer. Parents are also welcome if children are too shy to come forward on their own.

Godly Play

At 11:00am worship only, pre-K through second graders are dismissed after the Time with Children for Godly Play.

Children’s Worship Bags

For children that choose to remain in worship, there are Children’s Worship Bags located at the back of the church. Ask an usher and they will direct you to these cloth bags that contain liturgical items designed to help children follow along in the service as well as other quiet activities.

Children’s Choirs

There are two choirs for children at First Presbyterian Church. Both meet at the beginning of the education hour from 9:30 to 9:50am. The Cherub Choir, for kindergarteners through second graders, learn about singing for God. Basic musicianship skills are started, often using musical games to help teach vocal technique. The Genesis Singers, for third graders through fifth graders, continue to learn the role of music in worship, good musicianship, and are introduced to hand bell ringing.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) Camp

Each summer, First Presbyterian Church partners with St. Anne’s Episcopal Church to host a creative five-day experience for children in preschool through grade 5. Using biblical storytelling, worship, crafts, music and games, First Presbyterian Church comes alive with the excitement of over a hundred children. VBS Camp is typically held in early to mid-summer. Please contact Miss Good, Director of Family Ministry for more information.
