The Rev. Dr. William L. Hathaway, Pastor
Bill Hathaway was called to the church as pastor in the summer of 1999
after serving in two congregations in Western New York, first in
Buffalo and then as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Lockport,
New York from 1984 to 1999.
Raised in the midwest, he received a BA in Anthropology from the
University of Illinois (1974) a Masters of Divinity from Princeton
Theological Seminary (1977) and a Doctor of Ministry from Colgate
Rochester Divinity School (1995). Recently he was a member of the
Pastor/Theologian Program of the Center for Theological Inquiry in
Princeton, and in 2011 Bill and the congregation were awarded a
sabbatical grant from the Lilly Endowment.
Bill is married to the Rev. Dr. Alison Halsey who is the Pastor of the
First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church in Baltimore; they live
in the Annapolis congregation's manse. Halsey, their older son, holds
a Masters in Fine Arts and is married to Jolynn Krystosek. The two
artists live in New York. Son, Daniel, is a graduate of the
University of Delaware, married to Melissa Sabol and sharing life with
daughter, Brianna. The family lives in Wilmington, Delaware. Alison
and Bill enjoy hiking and camping, are fans of the National Parks in
general and are frequent visitors to Assateague National Park.
"I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity of serving as the pastor of this
fine congregation. The congregation's commitment to mission and its
high expectations for quality worship and preaching brought me to
Annapolis and continue to engage and challenge me."
The Rev. Heather G. Shortlidge, Associate Pastor
Heather was called to First Presbyterian Church in December 2007 to
minister in the areas of education, spiritual development, pastoral
care and worship.
Previously, Heather served as the associate pastor of Rivermont
Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, TN where she developed ministries
for children, families, and young adults. Prior to that, Heather
served as a pediatric hospital chaplain at the Children's Medical
Center of Dallas where she provided spiritual and emotional support to
patients and staff within the center for cancer and blood disorders.
Heather earned her undergraduate degree from the University of
Richmond and her Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological
Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. Heather is part of a lectionary
preaching group called The Well that gathers once a year for study and
reflection. She currently sits on the Communities of Learning Steering
Committee at Union Presbyterian Seminary and is also a member of the
Committee on Preparation for Ministry of Baltimore Presbytery.
While in high school, Heather was a pre-professional ballerina dancing
in Wilmington, DE, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. While pursuing
her undergraduate degree, she spent summers working at the Kennedy
Center with the Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell program and
other adult education initiatives.
Heather enjoys all things related to food, especially baking and
trying new hole-in-the-wall restaurants. She is a huge fan of soft serve
ice cream and has even been known to drive across the bridge just to
get some Dairy Queen. Also interested in the mind-body connection,
rarely a week goes by without a yoga practice or Pilates class.
Heather relishes being back within driving distance of her family. Her
mother still lives in West Grove, PA where she grew up. Her older
sister, Joy, now lives in Manhattan, and her younger sister, Meg,
resides in McLean, VA.

Jessica Jonas, Director of Youth Ministry
Jessica Jonas comes to us from Christian Community Presbyterian Church
in Bowie, Maryland. Jessica grew up in a home that celebrated both
Christian and Jewish faith traditions, which allowed her to explore
both sides of her faith heritage (including the December perk of
celebrating both Christmas and Hanukkah!). Jessica has gradually taken
on leadership roles within CCPC's youth ministry program, including
several summers of co-leading youth retreats at Montreat Conference
Center. A 2009 graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania, Jessica majored in English and Media Culture and minored
in Spanish. She has interned at First Presbyterian Church of
Allentown, where she designed and co-led junior high youth
programs. She also spent a summer serving as a Student Youth Counselor
in Nain, Labrador Canada. Jessica is currently enrolled in the
University of Baltimore's MFA program in Creative Writing and the
Publishing Arts and has another part-time job in a law firm in
Washington, D.C. She has two younger sisters and enjoys dance of all
kinds, green tea ice cream, roller derby games, and Ray Bradbury. Her
two biggest passions, though, are youth and stories, and she is
excited to get to know the stories behind the youth at FPC Annapolis.
Amy Molina, Seminary Intern
Amy Molina is currently working towards her Master of Divinity degree
at Princeton Theological Seminary where she has completed her first of
three years of study. Amy earned her undergraduate degree from Rutgers
University in 2006 and a Masters of Education from Lesley University
in 2010. Prior to seminary, she served two years as an Americorp
volunteer working for Citizen Schools, a non-profit organization
serving an under-resourced middle school in East Harlem. Amy enjoys
meeting new people and asking lots of questions. She looks forward to
being a part of the FPC community this summer and the additional bonus
of being in close proximity to great seafood.
