The Rev. Dr. William L. Hathaway, Pastor
Bill Hathaway was called to the church as pastor in the summer of 1999
after serving in two congregations in Western New York, first in
Buffalo and then as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Lockport,
New York from 1984 to 1999.
Raised in the midwest, he received a BA in Anthropology from the
University of Illinois (1974) a Masters of Divinity from Princeton
Theological Seminary (1977) and a Doctor of Ministry from Colgate
Rochester Divinity School (1995). Recently he was a member of the
Pastor/Theologian Program of the Center for Theological Inquiry in
Princeton.
Bill is married to the Rev. Dr. Alison Halsey who is the Pastor of the
First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church in Baltimore and they
have two sons, Halsey, who holds a Masters in Fine Arts and is an
artist in New York, and Daniel, a graduate of the University of
Delaware. Dan and Melissa are the proud parents of Brianna, living in
Wilmington, Delaware. Alison and Bill live in the church's manse in
Annapolis. They enjoy hiking and camping, are fans of the National
Parks in general and frequent visitors to Assateague National Park.
"I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity of serving as the pastor of this
fine congregation. The congregation's commitment to mission and its
high expectations for quality worship and preaching brought me to
Annapolis and continue to engage and challenge me."
The Rev. Heather G. Shortlidge, Associate Pastor
Heather was called to First Presbyterian Church in December 2007 to
minister in the areas of education, spiritual development, pastoral
care and worship.
Previously, Heather served as the associate pastor of Rivermont
Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, TN where she developed ministries
for children, families, and young adults. Before that, Heather served
as a pediatric hospital chaplain at the Children's Medical Center
of Dallas where she provided spiritual and emotional support to
patients and staff within the center for cancer and blood disorders.
Heather earned her undergraduate degree from the University of
Richmond and her Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological
Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.
While in high school, Heather was a pre-professional ballerina dancing
in Wilmington, DE, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. While pursuing
her undergraduate degree, she spent summers working at the Kennedy
Center with the Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell program and
other adult education initiatives.
Heather enjoys all things related to food, especially baking and
trying new hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Rarely a week goes by without
a yoga practice or Pilates class.
Heather relishes being back within driving distance of her family. Her
parents and grandparents still live in West Grove, PA where she grew
up. She has an older sister in Arlington, VA and a younger sister too
far away in San Diego, CA.

Chris Dunn, Director of Youth Ministry
Chris is a life long member First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis. In
October of 2006 he accepted the position as Director of Youth
Ministry, tasked with helping to guide the youth of FPC in safe
passage to adulthood and offering a specific faith identity using
significant relationships with Christian adults.
Chris has many fond memories of when he was in Sunday school and youth
fellowship here and is anxious to pass those experiences on to the
next generation of FPC youth.
Chris earned his bachelors degree in Mathematics from the University
of Maryland Baltimore County. After 12 years in the mortgage industry,
he traded in his ties and desk for a tool belt and a paint brush. In
addition to his youth position he worked for a local home improvement
contractor as a carpenter and painter before becoming the church's
Facilities Manager in 2007. An accident and a severely broken leg
have prevented him from continuing in that position.
Chris's family members are also active members of the congregation.
Chris enjoys worshiping along with his parents, sister,
brother-in-law, and nieces. He lives in Annapolis with two dogs and
two cats and hopes to continue his education at seminary in the
future.
Katie Cashwell
Katie was called to First Presbyterian Church in August 2009. Having
completed two of her three years of theological education at Union
Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, Katie has opted to fully
immerse herself in the life of our congregation. As intern here she
will explore general pastoral duties including pastoral care,
teaching, preaching, and worship leadership. The majority of her time
will be devoted to younger adults, including students at St. John's
College and the Naval Academy. Upon completing the internship in
August 2010, Katie will return to seminary for her final year of
theological study and will work towards ordination in the Presbyterian
Church.
Before her days as a seminary student in Richmond, Katie worked for
the RHINO program of Saint Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New
Orleans, managing Katrina recovery efforts. She has been an
environmental education teacher and wilderness trip leader in
Wiscasset, Maine for the Chewonki Foundation. She also held several
leadership positions at Davidson College, where she earned her
undergraduate degree in Anthropology. She honed her youth and young
adult ministry skills through service at First Presbyterian Church
of Greensboro, NC, Second Presbyterian Church of Richmond, VA, and the
Montreat Conference Center.
Katie hails from North Carolina and cherishes its barbeque (eastern
style!), bluegrass, and the Blue Ridge mountains. She enjoys baking
bread, yoga, ultimate Frisbee, live music, knitting, and canoeing. She
has family living throughout the southeast.
She is excited and grateful for the intentional time and space that
this year will allow for discernment, exploration, and growth in both
her personal and professional life.
